The Ovens valley alpine region is a long-time favourite holiday destination for Australians and is now increasingly being discovered by international guests as well.

The natural beauty of the Victorian high country mountains, rivers and valleys, together with a diversity of culture, agriculture and historical attractions are all conveniently located within an easy half day drive.

Our Region

The North East high country encompasses the river valleys of the Ovens, King, Buffalo, Buckland, Kiewa and Mitta Mitta and the townships of Bright, Harrietville, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Yackandandah, Rutherglen, Mt Beauty, Wangaratta and Albury Wodonga, as well as the alpine parks associated with Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.

We have warm summers, cool winters and approximately 1000m of rain each year.

Where Are We?

Valley Homestead can be found an easy drive north east of Melbourne via the Hume Freeway and Great Alpine Road.

If you drive continuously it takes about 3 hours. We're on the on the edge of Victoria's magnificent high country, 25km from Bright and 10km from Myrtleford.

It is an excellent base for day trips into the north east or alpine high country or you may prefer to just stay and relax or be challenged on site.
